Prologue

The Jackal bounded up the staircase, four at a time.
I quickly assessed my situation and surroundings.
Just as The Jackal reached the top of the stairs, I jumped onto the balcony railing.
"Lily!" James screamed. "What are you doing?"
I looked behind me and saw The Jackal drawing nearer.
Then I jumped off the railing.
