Description
Ten-year-old Murphy Culpepper tends to fail at everything. He broke his friend's favorite game. He forgot to feed his hamster, Alva, so Alva ate a hole through the side of the cage to try to escape into a better life. He can't help but wonder if his parents' divorce was his fault, too. So, when his aunt reads him a story that transports him to a fantastic world where a determined baby dragon begs him to help the good and beautiful queen who is in grave danger from an invading army, he knows he needs to get out of there before he makes everything worse. The thing is, he's only got seven days until the enemy arrives on the shores of Capital City and he hasn't the slightest idea how to get back to his own world before they attack. I based this middle-grade adventure story on the #OpenNovellaContest2021 prompt: (#12) When they begged their aunt for a bedtime story, they had no idea they would end up in a magical kingdom.
