It was the first race of the night, the beginning of the pure ecstasy that thrummed through the crowd's veins. It was the suspense, the wait for the first car to cross the finish line.

"Ready!"

She raised the flag into the air, the white standing out in the dark night.

"Set!"

Engines revved, the smell of fuel filling the air as the fabric swayed in the breeze.

"Go!"

The flag fell, a bright blur in the blackness.
