Monsters don't only appear at night. Sometimes they follow you around like a shadow even when the sun is shining bright.
Evangeline didn't know when she left her house she would never be able to return again. The monster took a liking to her and used Evangeline as a personal puppet or even a pet. She will never be able to escape the strong grasp of the monster.
