Sonic is being cocky by thinking he can take on Dr. Eggman on his own. That becomes a fatal mistake. He gets caught up in an explosion and loses his sight. Knuckles is the first to discover his blindness. Sonic doesn't want it to get out to their friends, let alone society. Now Knuckles has to help Sonic in this hard time as he isn't going to let him do it on his own.
