Izuku wasn't always a drug. Neither was her sister. Once they were viewed as people. Until her sister, Eri, got her quirk. Their father faded away right in front of them at the hands of Eri's new quirk. Devasted and grieving their mom decided to set Eri up for adoption.

However their grandfather took her in, not wanting to see such a young child rot in the streets. Wanting to protect her sister Izuku left with Eri, taking the harsh world together. Soon their grandfather fell ill and passed leaving them in the care of Kai Chisaki.

That was the last moment they were considered, human.
