Some of Death's souls are missing, and Death knows just the Necromancer to get them back... and commissions a ghost to record the story for Her Library.

700 years after the events of the Book of Chance, the world is split in two by the Faerie Rift. The South is threatened by rogue shamans and a terrible secret, while in the North the von Hisse siblings are threatened by the tensions between them, and the spectre of the past.

As events are set in motion and prophecies begin to come true, can Death trust Her favourite Necromancer to fulfil his duties, and can his family trust one another?
