Wesley James loved Christmas almost as much as he loved his border collie, Rosie. That, and his job as the town's librarian and the coffee over at Pete's. But as a snowstorm rolls over, Wesley promises Rosie to go on a longer than usual walk to make up for the blustering and dangerous conditions that could last for days, even weeks. Despite the frigid temperatures and the low visibility, he holds onto his promise to take Rosie to her favorite spot, the lake. Ethan Harden hated Christmas almost as much as he hated being a high-school dropout. Hated returning home to a family that scorned every decision he ever made. After all, it wasn't his idea to drop out, he had wanted to be a veterinarian. As Ethan's car breaks down passing through a small town as he took the long way around to home, he wonders if this was a sign. But when he notices a stranger and his dog in distress at the lake, Ethan's experience and instincts as a volunteer firefighter kick in. Stranded in a small town, with a broken car, and trapped in a snowstorm hadn't been Ethan's idea of fun. But as Rosie's savior, Wesley allows Ethan to stay at his place until the storm passes. And as the days go on, both of them wonder if maybe, this had been more than just a coincidence. Maybe it had been the perfect place to fall.
