A diary is where you write your whole life, secrets, belongings and important stuff. Even so with a broken heart you still try to write something in there to lift up your shoulders, somehow even if your feelings are scattered you see yourself and your diary being fixed and everything is getting better and better, even if your life isn't that complete anymore.
