Chapter 1

When a mid-air collision results in a bomb falling near the drought-ridden Spanish village of Palomares, the local mayor considers it a gift from the gods. He makes a deal to return the unexploded bomb to the USAF in exchange for a new well. Unfortunately, Basque separatists have different ideas. They steal the bomb to use in a plot to assassinate General Franco, unaware that it is actually a thermonuclear device. The Mayor of Palomares, with the help of a streetwise American sergeant, must recover the weapon to secure the community's future ... and avert a nuclear disaster.

NOTE: Although this light-hearted story is fictional, it is based on actual events (see Author's Notes).
