Description

Plato had an allegory, The Allegory of the Cave. This allegory explains a story of a group of prisoners that have lived their lives chained and facing a wall in a cave. They only see things in the form of shadows against the wall cast by a fire, these shadows becoming the prisoners reality. When one of these prisoners were able to escape, he sees the world outside and what cast those shadows. He wouldn't be able to name them or recognize them for what they are. They would believe that the shadows on the wall were more real than the things they were seeing. When looking at the fire, he would be blinded by the light. He would then turn back to the shadows of the place he grew up in, preferring to stay in the world he knows. For Janette Dawson, this allegory is the story of her life.
