This is first and foremost a queer love story. The queer experience weaves its way into every aspect, starting with the feeling of being an outcast and the euphoria of finding your community. The heartbreak of realizing your family doesn't want you, or the relief of your parents saying they love you anyways. The fear of living in a world that feels so hostile towards you, and learning to stand up for yourself and others like you. The confusion and journey of understanding gender expression and having the support system to explore how to express yourself freely. The feeling of finding yourself. The warmth of growing with someone who loves you as you change into who you are. The sheer magic and joy of queer love. By magic, I mean real raw magic that you find late at night nestled in the swaying grass that digs its roots into the deepest part of your identity, until you realize it's been with you all along. Magic that's hard to control and takes time and effort to control and perfect. The energy in the people around you, the energy in the buzzing street lights and the humming railroad tracks. Magic that flutters in your chest like a caged bird when you bite your tongue. Magic that bursts out in spouts of anger, magic that you can cook into pastries and pies. This is the story of a girl named Maxima and her new partner Raine. As they go on wild adventures, while discovering the mysteries of their city, they learn about love and accepting themselves, after that, everything else falls into place. ~ HI!
