When I first saw her I didn't know what to think. A beautiful girl, sitting alone in the middle of the pumpkin patch while the sun was close to setting. I remember she had a huge cart of baby pumpkins behind her, and I thought she was one of those misty-eyed nature lovers that are always going on about the meaning of things. I remember it was almost like a painting. I think it had all started in that moment. That picture. That strange girl with hair that was the color of butter, or maybe coffee when you use too much cream. With a knit sweater that was too simple to look as beautiful as it did in that second.
