Prologue - What just happened?

Alex Thorne is, forgive me for being a little crass, a dirt-poor penniless girl who -let's face it- was probably not going to be anything more than that. But at least she still has a father whom she loves even after her mother died when she was young.

So when her father became sick and she got an anonymous letter saying they will pay for her father's medical bills, she accepted their offer. Only thing she has to do? Visit this mysterious stranger's home and find him.
