Catarina Bennett and Carah Devin have been best friends since they could crawl. In their eyes, they're more than best friends, they're sisters. Their families are extremely close, they've always gone to school together, and to top it all off, they're next door neighbors too. How could things be more perfect? Despite feeling as though they are the same on the inside, on the outside, they couldn't be more different. Being African-American and dark-skinned, Carah isn't viewed the same way as Catarina, who is biracial and light-skinned. Catarina has been praised for her beauty throughout her life, whereas Carah's beauty has, for the most part, gone unnoticed and is underappreciated. Although they never fail to uplift each other in this racially biased world, to others around them, their differences unfortunately continue to separate them. As both girls prepare to celebrate the beginning of their third decade of friendship, various insensitive racial comments surface a little too close to home, which threatens to tear this beautiful connection apart. Will Catarina and Carah be able to save their friendship, or will the stereotypes, misconceptions and microaggressions put an end to it forever?
