Coralina Routledge, twin sister of John Booker Routledge, needs a distraction from the chaos of her life. Her father, Big John, known throughout the North Carolina island of Kildaire as a crazy treasure hunter is always running off and leaving his children at home. The constant need to maintain a happy persona in the face of her father's neglect has started to take it's toll and she takes comfort and distraction in the form of her brother's best friend.
