Description
History is written by the victors, and they have won for too long. The continent of Vollemna is on the verge of collapse, though anyone else might hardly know it. Although the peoples of all kingdoms are oppressed, silenced, and preyed upon by those who would govern them, one man has seen what worse fate waits over the horizon, threatening to lay waste to what little goodness remains. Six strangers travel from across the continent to meet at the door of the Forgemaster, an expert weaponsmith and the most skilled enchanter in the known world. He has spent weeks--months--tempering the metal of six identical blades, waiting for his summoned co-conspirators. As they arrive one by one, he works on completing the swords, enchanting each of them with unique magic, in an effort to create the most powerful spellwork ever written, to create artifacts that will serve as the foundation for a better Vollemna, but first, to tear down the shadow of itself that has consumed it. Under the thumb of six tyrants compelled by greed, paranoia, and lust for power, Rona, Couth, and the other four swordmasters must take the six majestic swords and set out on their missions, alone: to kill the six tyrants, and free Vollemna. Threatened by the warnings of a trickster god and their own ideas of what Vollemna ought to be--and their hesitations as to what they have been told plagues it--they each know solemnly in their heart that it is by their hand, for better of for worse, that history will be rewritten, or else their well-intentioned actions undone.
