Sunniva was painfully aware of the Fool’s incessant gaze. He must have seen her, must have noticed. She had tried to hide the creeping deep blue pigment that seeped throughout the room. The stain that wrapped its icy tendrils around the omnipotent Widow Master, slowly transforming his aged and greying beard into a golden blonde. She reminded herself not to worry, have no fear. Nobody ever pays attention, nobody ever sees. Besides, even if he did notice, no one would believe him. Only Fools believe in magic. In the great kingdom of Tarruel, magic is extinct: a mere myth, a faerie tale to be feared. But Sunniva knows otherwise. Granted the powers of the Wish, she is bound by nature to grant the spoken desires of those around her – at any cost. It was once easy to evade the watchful eyes of the guards and keep her powers secret. But when the task of nursing Edmund, the detested and crippled nephew of the Widow Master is entrusted upon her, what little stability and normality she had in her life is lost.
