Eighteen-year-old Tyler Petrit is tired. He's tired of his drug-addicted father always blaming him for his problems and he's tired of his father's girlfriend acting like she's his mother (while both come down on him for being a failure). Tyler thinks he has the right to judge them as much as they judge him because while he has his own issues (including an eating disorder he "mostly" has under control), he doesn't let them get in the way of his work or destroy his passion for art.

His only saving grace is his girlfriend, Alaska, who has her future all planned out. She's going to college to become a lawyer and work her way to the top of the chain. After a fight with his father, Tyler decides to whisk her on one final adventure. Also accompanied by his best friend, Gio, Tyler goes on a search for his birth mother, who abandoned him and his father when he was only five years old.

However, old memories have begun to resurface, memories Tyler has tried his hardest to bury. Really, this road trip is just another excuse for him to avoid his problems, before he really has to think about what he wants to do with his life other than searching for new ways to end it.
