Amira Triumphant - A retelling of "The Queen & the Murderer"

A young woman escapes her abusive family and their misogyny, but remains in constant fear of the man they almost forced her to marry.
Is he an actual threat or is Amira overreacting due to the trauma she has experienced?
What lengths will Amira and her would-be protectors go to in order for her to feel safe?

This short story is based on one of my favorite folktales, "The Queen & the Murderer." If the plot seems a bit implausible at times, please keep its origin in mind.
