Prologue

In a freak accident, genetic mutating gas spreads across New York sparing some, killing many, and giving others inhuman abilities. After Emerald (Em) loses her father, her last living family member to The Gas she learns that she gained the power to control fire at the snap of her fingers.
Instead of hiding she uses her new found abilities to help people in a society that sees her as the enemy.
Jumping from temporary home to home, becoming a part time super-powered crime fighter, and having a secret relationship with her girlfriend Kida in a homophobic city, makes life a mind boggling mess but it's nothing she can't handle ... well that was before someone comes to adopt her.
