On the quiet morning of the reaping of the 49th annual Mockingjay Games, Rye Spirce doesn't expect anything amazing to occur. Coming from a rather wealthy family from the Seams of Section M, Rye suspects nothing. Until her name is called, and she is now a tribute.

She is paired with Cole Mellark, the grandson of Katniss Everdeen-the leader of the Revolution-after volunteering for the place of his younger brother. In the Capitol, Rye soon realizes that she is the secondary character when creating her story before the Games, and that Cole has the spotlight.

Now playing the part, Rye tries to use it to get an advantage as the Games approach and she is waiting for the gong to strike.
