Michael & Walter get ready for school when Walter forgets his backpack and in doing so, ends up missing the school bus.

Walter decides to walk to school and along the way he encounters Mortimer, a small boy home sick; Old Ben and his friend Erle in an abandoned railway station; foxes and more.

Michael daydreams, wondering where Walter has gone to as the day progresses and makes some unexpected new friends.
