Description

There's always that one-black girl whose cast in the movies for diversity, the one who doesn't quite fit in anywhere, the member of a friend group merely for the purpose of misusing the phrase, "I can't be racist, my friends black." She's the Token Black girl, and her names Zion Lewis. **** Zion Lewis, a sixteen-year-old black girl, from Jacksonville, Florida is juggling mental illness, high school, boys, racial inequality and a mother in law enforcement. Zion began publicly speaking on behalf of the Black community at twelve years old, and hasn't grown silent since. Zion is one of four Lewis kids living in a predominantly white neighborhood, attending a primarily white school. Since a young age, Zion has felt isolated from her fellow black brothers and sisters. Kids in the town over referred to her as an "Oreo." due to her uncanny ability to fit the white girl stereotypes. Zion never fit the status quote; she was unbothered by it publicly, but embarrassed behind closed doors. Regardless of what people say, If you do not see her blackness, then you do not see Zion Lewis. Cover designed by @AXERAGE
