I brought a shaky hand to my mouth as I surveyed my destruction. It was too surreal. I couldn't have done it. There was no way. It had to be a horrible nightmare. I could not have killed four people. I needed to wake up. Wake up! "Are you finished?" Nicolae's annoyed voice demanded from the archway to the kitchen. A sob rang out as my chest constricted with guilt. Horrible, unwavering guilt. The heaping guilt of massacring a family didn't compare to the guilt and disgust I experienced with myself for feeling entitled to their lives. Something in me assured me it was my right, my duty to take their lives much in the way humans think of cattle. I reduced a family to cattle and I hated myself for it. "We need to leave, Kira." "I killed them," I cried. He rolled his silver eyes and approached me quickly. His hand wrapped around my wrist and he yanked me towards the back of the house. His quick, steady pace was the only thing that kept me moving. I turned back as we rounded the corner and caught a glimpse of my murders. Before we stepped out of the house, Nicolae gripped my shoulders and forced my attention to him. My tears were non-existent. I felt like crying. I wanted to cry, but nothing came out.
