The Lawyer

"How do you do it?" I whispered, the space between us seeming too large for my tiny kitchen.

"Do what?" He furrowed his eyebrows, taking a step closer to me.

"Everything you've been put through, everything they say about you," I shook my head, thinking about all the articles I'd read over the years, "You're so genuine and hopeful and kind..."

"I meet people like you, Stella..." He smiled softly his eyes never wavering from mine.
