Gemma Carerra grew up in the Figure-Eight with her younger sister by a year Kiara and their parents who only care about two things themselves and their bank accounts, she spends most of her days trying to be someone she is not. She feels trapped in her own life when she's at home because her parents make her feel like she is suffocating. Her sister is her only saving grace in this mess they call life.
Her heart calls her to the places where she knows she belongs, that's the Cut where all of the people she feels the closest to live. She hates being considered a rich girl or a kook but that's what society labels her as. With summer being right around the corner all Gemma could think about was surfing, fishing, smoking, drinking, and partying and all of this she will be doing with her sister and the rest of their friend group but her parents would never approve of her hanging around what they like to call "Pogue garbage".
She struggles to figure out where she belongs and also struggles with her mental health because of her parents. When Hurricane Agatha made landfall on the island, Logan and the group accidentally uncover a major secret mystery that hasn't been solved in the past 100 years while fishing. Gemma thought that this would be a change in pace for her but it flips her life upside down.
As the group worked to solve this mystery a certain brown-eyed boy with beautiful hair takes hold of her heart and her summer with his whirlwind adventures and out of this world missions. As time goes on she realizes she is falling in love with this boy like you would fall asleep; slowly then all at once. There's just one thing, her family doesn't approve of the brown-eyed boy she's falling for.
