Still recovering from James' attack, Bella Swan hopes for a peaceful birthday celebration. However, a shocking near-death experience convinces her best friend, the vampire Edward Cullen, that he is still too dangerous to be around her, and so he and his coven leave. Hurt and alone, Bella turns into herself before reigniting her friendship with Julie Black, an adventurous young woman and her childhood friend.
