He was abused as he grew up and grew from that, after having a child with a woman he thought he found the love of his life. The woman witch was Brittany, abused there child without Izzy knowledge.
After Izzy found out he immediately left and found the life he knew he deserved, he grew to find the thing he needed the most, witch was love.
