Description

Inspired by one of the most famous poets of all time, Emily Dickinson, the title of this piece is, by itself, a notable feature. I was inspired by her complex thinking behind her titles. The fact that she does not make a title for any of her poems and simply just number them in order of when she wrote them, can help the reader pay attention to the intricate details throughout. Attempting to better understand the piece without a title can aid an audience in the understanding of the poem without the title giving away information. On another note, the point conveyed throughout this poem is the idea that life on this Earth is precious, and that it comes in a set of seasons for each person. I felt that comparing a human life to a delicate flower was appropriate because human life is so fragile and comes and goes so fast. The seasons of Spring (birth/childhood), Summer (teen/young adult), Autumn (adulthood), Winter (old age/death) and their effect on a flower (giving it human attributes here) demonstrates these phases of human life almost perfectly. Finally, the rhetorical use of the Spring season displays that when one life ends, another begins; so the cycle, therefore, never ends.
