John-Matthew James Brown is 17-year-old man who is mute because of damaged vocal chords from bleach being poured down his throat by his maternal grandmother. He has two younger siblings - Parker and Bella. Their parents are divorced and this happened ten years ago when J.M. was 7 years, Parker was 4 years and Bella was 3 years old. J.M. has a crush on the high school popular jock, Gage Williams.

Gage Lee Williams is 18 years old and believes he is straight but secretly is crushing on John-Matthew. Plays soccer, football and baseball.
