Belle found she was with child within her stay with Rumplestiltskin and first ran for the safety of the child. That was the day that Rumpelstiltskin tested her to see if she'd leave and she was captured by the Evil Queen on her hesitant return. He was a monster but she loved him. Belle was ready to leave her captor so quickly but the thought of a fatherless child drew her back. Regina found out about the child and took the child for herself. Regina told herself it was because of the child's raw power, being the child of the dark one but she really wanted love.
