Alice and George Bridgham have been married for thirteen years, and in those thirteen years, they have been trying to have a child. Unfortunately for Alice, doctors have been telling her for years she is not able to have children and that she and her husband should give up trying.

During the Christmas season, George is cut off from one of his two jobs and this brings distress to his mindset, but Alice sees it as an opportunity to show him that she can help pull her weight through baking. But when Alice takes a pregnancy test one morning, Alice and George's world gets flipped upside down.
