Still reeling from the events in Chicago, Nick and Craig are beset with deep sorrow after witnessing Becky perish in the battle at the nightclub. Cain is nowhere to be found; they suspect he is grieving too over her loss.

Unexpectedly, they end up playing host to Cole, who escaped Cain's wrath in Chicago - all thanks to Craig. Nick doesn't trust nor like Cole, believing his motives are suspect; he is secretive and reluctant to tell them everything he knows. Craig performs a mind-meld on the Watcher and learns his purpose - or at least, as much as Cole is willing to reveal, and he joins forces with the angels to locate Cain.

Meanwhile, Cain and one seriously still-breathing Becky, embark on an immortal life together. Becky, still a resolute and vocal atheist, is ready to take on the progressive eradication of malevolent individuals, be they human or celestial. But Cain refuses to let her kill, knowing only too well the impact such a deed would have on her.

During this time, Becky is tormented by thoughts of the Watcher, Cole. Their brief encounter in the nightclub has her pondering the possibility that the man is Cain's long-lost, dead brother. Living in the realm of the supernatural, now, it doesn't seem such a far-fetched notion. Should she reveal her thoughts to Cain, or should she remain quiet?

Elsewhere, in a residence known as Tophet Manor, an old adversary of Cain's awaits. As does an all-powerful force that observes the angels and vampires with keen interest. He, too, has an agenda involving the biblical brothers - one that will infuriate the Almighty.
