Description
Salem Blackthorne -a serial killer who displays his victims on a series of hooks and wires earning him the name 'The Puppetmaster'- is a man who is as bloodthirsty as he is handsome. After being tortured and held prisoner for years by his kidnapper, Salem ends the lives of monsters like the one that forever changed his. He has eluded every detective assigned to his case so far; he's a very neat, very efficient killer. The police know he is an intelligent, vicious monster that won't stop until he's either caught or killed, but they don't know much more than that. Magnus Trancy is a homicide detective who has been assigned to The Puppetmaster case, it's his first case in six months, time which he spent off duty after being unable to cope with the death of a woman killed during his last investigation. When Magnus begins to uncover parts of the killer's intricate web that other detectives before him failed to, Salem becomes interested in him and starts to play games with the detective, purposefully leaving clues to see if he is smart enough to find them, something Salem has never done before, but having a playmate that could prove to be as intelligent as him, how could he resist? Still quite lonely after the death of his companion in crime a few years ago, Salem desires to find someone to join him in his deadly escapades, and he thinks he may have found the right partner in Magnus Trancy when he discovered that he and the detective share a bond. Still tormented by nightmares of the woman he couldn't save, but determined to bring this killer to justice, Detective Trancy pushes himself to solve these grisly crimes, all the more so after he discovers he has become the object of this serial killer's obsession. He barely sleeps or eats, he doesn't think about anything other than the case. This causes those around him to begin to question whether he's pushing himself too hard and straight over the cliff of reason into the ocean of insanity.
