Description

I discovered a trunk of love letters in the attic of the house we bought four years ago. We didn't go very far into the attic when we looked at the house to purchase it because it was dusty and full of cobwebs and my husband has allergies. But even if we had, we wouldn't have discovered the letters because they were in a trunk behind a false wall. We discovered the trunk when we decided to remodel the attic into a playroom for the children we planned to have one day. The cracked and faded letters were written between a woman and a man who met in Central Park in New York City in the 1950's and start off with all the silliness of a teenager in love. But then you discover her wealthy father forges a letter from the US Government and Nicholas is swept away to fight in the Vietnam War. The letters tell an incredible tale of a woman who waited a lifetime for her fiance to come home from Vietnam. We checked the title history on our house. There's never been a Nicholas or a Helen who owned it. The owners just previous to us said they didn't know anyone with these names and we haven't been able to track down the owner before them. I will publish more letters when I find time to transcribe them. ======== The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once. ~Albert Einstein ========= **** This is a work of fiction to be part of a longer book but is still be a novella in and of itself.
