Zarity Chalice is NOT the Chosen One. Sure, her parents are divorced. Sure, she's got ADHD and anger issues. And yes, she is part of a magical species that's supposed to be extinct---but she's one out of a thousand. The most adventure she's ever gotten is reading and writing stories. But she doesn't want to be masquerading as a human---she wants to actually be herself. Zarity would honestly do anything if it meant not hiding anymore. Even if it means going on a quest that she shouldn't be involved in at all. Jay Mallison is the type of guy that you'd expect to be the Chosen One. He's famous (he hates it), he's got magic (okay, that's cool), and all-in-all, his life is pretty good. But he wants to actually make a difference in the world, instead of training for a mission that'll never come. So when he and his insane best friend get assigned to track down Persephone, who's supposedly gone rogue, he jumps at the chance... except that taking it opens up a whole new set of dangers. And Ferra Raden doesn't want to be chosen, period. She hates the fact that she's split-pantheon and only half-elf, she hates the fact that her and her sibling's extra-strong powers make them a target for bullying, and she hates the fact that no matter how hard she tries, she can't be normal. So when she and her siblings discover their family's secret, Ferra's not surprised to find that normal flies out the window. She doesn't want to go on a quest, but it doesn't look like there's another option. Insane gods? Yep. Fairy kings and queens? Hey, why not. Fandoms? Oh yeah. Queerness? Definitely. And normalicy?
