Around us, the chatter of the few customers could be heard. Forrest moved his food around on his plate with his fork. "What's wrong little man?" I asked. Forrest looked up at me and set his fork down on his plate. He opened and closed his mouth, unsure of what to say. He leaned forward, his eyes darting to everyone else in the diner before he said anything. "What if he finds us." Forrest whispered. I too, looked around the diner to make sure no one was listening in on out conversation. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that everyone else was minding their own business. "He won't, I promise." I said. Forrest nodded his head and went back to eating his food once more. **** There's more to Carland Creek then what meets the eye. For Raven and Forrest, it offers what they seek, a fresh start in a place where nobody knows who they really are. Getting away from their abusive father was the easy part but for Raven, finding her independence was the hardest thing in the world. To be able to provide for her brother, she must first find a job and a place to live. Her plan is to never leave a paper trail behind her. But her plan changes when her father come to town and kidnaps her brother. Raven must find the courage within herself to stand up to the man who made her life a living hell and save her brother. With war rising and danger inbound, Raven can't fight on her own and must ask the town for help. But when she starts to change, she realizes that her mother was shielding her from her true heritage and when something inside of her is drawn to a mysteriously handsome man, can she really throw everything she's worked so hard for out the door?
