This is also known as "Ramus: Book 0" as it is a prequel to the main line of books featuring Detective Jain. In this story, he starts as a fresh new PC at training school. His first week quickly descends into a mess of anxiety, abuse and tragedy. The effects shape him for the rest of his career.
