Elena and Damond have no way of knowing if they have the cure in their veins because it looks identical to regular blood. they also don't know if they can become vampires. So Elena never tells her kids about vampires werewolves or even witches. So when the twins turn into werewolves then vampires and star spurting fire they have some questions. But these twins are indecisive and smart which could be a dangerous risk.
