Prologue

"I'm on my own," I say, looking around the room. "You don't have to be. Just let me help you." he's right, but I will instead be alone. I want to fight my battles independently and win or lose. I did everything on my own. "I want to be alone. Fewer people get hurt that way." He walks away from me, and at that moment, I realize I don't want to be alone; I don't want to be without him, but why?
