When he first met Saffron Mitchell in his first year in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Olly Jowett immediately found himself wanting to gravitate towards her. The word around the castle was that she wasn't like her older sister Maya, who was adored by all in Ravenclaw house, and Olly wanted to know why.

He soon realised that Saffron was just like him. She had family missing and no indication as to where they could be or why they weren't with her.

It was from that moment on that Olly decided that he wanted Saffron to be his friends.

It was then in his fourth year that his own friends, Terry Boot and Padma Patil decided that they were going to make the two more than friends.

Thus, his alliance was formed.
