Prologue

Adrian Carter has been in love with Kathryn Winter since they were children. Or at least, he thinks he is. He doesn't know her middle name, he doesn't understand why she keeps crystals in her pocket, and he doesn't understand why she wants to move away from the town they grew up in. Kathryn hasn't thought about Adrian since the eighth grade, but she's willing to be distracted until she finds her way back to San Francisco. That is, if Adrian can give up his fantasy, and accept who she is at 23 is not who she was at 13 - and she's not so sure that he can.
