Sixteen year old Maria Marquez wants nothing more than to seek revenge on those who wronged her and then escape. She longs to live life on her own terms. Succeeding or failing, living or dying based on her decisions, on her free will. And in a few days, that's exactly what will happen. It is time for Maria to flee. 400 years after the Water Wars, one woman presides over the last human city. She is a mysterious figure known as, The Creator. Seemingly ageless, The Creator built The City in the aftermath of the apocalypse. To some She is a God, to others a ghost. But to Maria, The Creator is nothing more than a warden. The Earth is covered in a post-nuclear-fallout desert. Cracked earth and dust is all that is left, and it is known as The Bleak. Inside the walls of The City, humanity has gained its final foothold and attempted to survive. Maria believes she has seen the truth. She sees a prison built to trap humans and prevent them from living their true lives. But days before Maria can make good on her escape plan, The City is attacked from the outside by a superhuman that only The Creator is able to slow down and eventually fight off. In the process, The Creator is injured and the trials to find her replacement are put in motion. Now Maria and two other young adults, Emil Forsberg and Sam Fowler, will be forced together. Teaming up to participate in The Antidote Trials. The winners will be given the elixir that has given The Creator her power and long life. Whomever is chosen will become part of The Three and will train to protect The City from the next attack. Unless, Maria finds a way to betray her teammates, steal the antidote, and disappear into The Bleak leaving humanity with no chance to survive.
