Everything remained unspoken. Hailee Young has lived with her Gran for almost eight years; she used to live with her parents but that happiness didn't last long when both her parents lost their jobs and were kicked out of the apartment they called home; now almost eighteen she hasn't seen them since they dropped her off at her Gran's. Makai Short has a seemingly ordinary life; ignoring his parents when he doesn't want to speak to them, helping his handicapped sister and listening to music. But almost eight years ago he met a girl he hardly ever talks to, a girl he fell for within a matter of minutes; how can a ten year old fall in love you ask? well they just have to be friends with a person and they have to make them smile.
