There’s a long stretch of silence as I stare at him. He looks around my age and certainly not threatening in the Marvel Comics shirt. “Hello darling,” The lad says in a voice I can’t quite describe. “Who the fuck are you?” I say, not-so-discreetly grabbing a knife from the counter. You can’t ever be too careful in New York. “Your guardian angel.” He says with a mischievous grin, completely unaffected by the sight of me holding a knife. If anything, he looks amused. “You think you’re very funny, don’t you? Arsecrown.” His green eyes match mine, his cheek bones becoming more prominent as he chewed the apple from my fridge, looking completely, annoyingly unfazed. In fact, he looks very charmed by my greeting. “Don’t you mean ‘Arseclown’?” The words roll of his tongue melodiously. “No, I mean arsecrown. The crown on top of the arsehat that covers the arsehole of the arseclown. The very peak in the hierarchy of asses," I say, as though I'm reading from a dictionary of modern profanity. "I guess you nailed me then.” * * * * Author's Note: With the exception of Chapter 1, this book is undergoing crucial editing. P.s The "arsecrown" dialogue is taken from the first book of one of my absolute favorite series, ― The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer ― and spoken by my absolute favorite character ― Noah Shaw.
