After her mother suddenly became ill and passed away, Carter went to live with her Aunt Mel and cousin Liza in Colorado. Because Carter was smart and somewhat of a bookworm, her only friends were her cousin and Dr. Hartford, the old man who lived down the road. When Dr. Hartford became ill and passed, his great nephew and heir to his fortune, arrived. His name was, Sterling Hartford, and no one knew he even existed. Carter who was starting her senior year of high school and was beginning to prepare for college, didn't have time for the beautiful, mysterious, Sterling. Although she hated how their paths kept crossing, she couldn't deny there was something about him that intrigued her. She decides to open up and get to know him. She soon finds out, Sterling, isn't who she thought he was, and Dr. Hartford, had secrets.
