Although his dreams seemed naturally enough, Carney's experimental drug use, casual sex, and his undeniably stupid mistakes keep the life he really wants at bay. Secondhand blood is the story of a man who, without ever marrying, and never having a child of his own, winds up surrounded by children he has fathered, in spite of his own lack of planning.
