Description
"Hello," I greeted. I put my hand over my heart and gave a casual bow, as per a normal introduction. I didn't need to tell him my name; he already knew. The man sat back on his heels, turning to look at the person who dared set foot in his garden. His arms and legs were covered in mud, as was expected from someone who was weeding a patch of seedlings. He didn't answer me, only frowned and looked me over. "I was wondering if there was some way I could help," I mentioned. It wasn't my true intention, but it was a good excuse. After a long silence, he turned back to his work and replied. "Why," he asked. "What do you get out of it?" Damn, he was defensive. "I just want to help," I stated, pouting and hoping to get a reaction from him. I could practically hear his mind working. "You aren't supposed to be here." "I'm not?" I asked innocently. "I was unaware." "Yes. You were aware." He was on to me, but I could only hope that he didn't tell on me. "What do you want from me that you would disobey our Father's word? What is it that you can get only from me, and no one else?" Without seeing what he was saying, his inquiries outlined my intentions exactly. After he asked his questions he seemed to realize what I was doing in his garden. "Father told you that you had to tend the garden for eternity," I pointed out. "I just want to help lessen the burden, if only a little." He was still turned away from me, so I couldn't see the thoughts crossing his face. Until he spoke again, I was in the dark as to his decision. Would he invite me closer, or turn me away?
