'But he loves me!' Mira told herself firmly as she applied dettol on the cut near her lip. 'He seemed drunk', she thought,' it must have been an accident, he means me no harm'. She assured herself and smiled at her reflection.

But as the years went by, the smile faded. Faded till it was only a thin line on her face. Her once bright self had been subdued for so long that it forgot how to shine. She thought of all that had happened. Days and months and years had gone by.
From the darling daughter of the village head to the women who went through unimaginable things.
